What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jaw where a tooth root used to be. Over a few months the bone bonds to it, creating a stable foundation for a crown, a bridge or a full set of fixed teeth.
Because an implant stands on its own, neighbouring teeth do not need to be cut down to support it, and the bone around it keeps being used rather than shrinking away.
Is it right for you?
Most healthy adults are suitable. Implants tend to be a good fit if:
- You are missing one or more teeth, or have teeth that cannot be saved
- You want a fixed option rather than a removable denture
- Your gums are healthy, or can be treated first
- You have enough jawbone, or are suitable for grafting
- You are an adult whose jaw has finished growing

Your implant position is planned digitally so surgery is precise and predictable.

Placement
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, with sedation if you prefer. A temporary tooth can often be fitted.

Healing and final tooth
Once the implant has bonded with the bone, your custom crown, bridge or arch is fitted.

Dental implants questions
How long do dental implants last?
With healthy gums and regular maintenance, the implant itself can last for decades. The crown on top is a wearing part and may need replacing sooner.
Does implant surgery hurt?
The area is fully numbed, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. Most people manage the following days with over-the-counter pain relief. Sedation is available if you are anxious.
Can I have a tooth the same day?
Sometimes. It depends on bone quality and the position of the tooth. We will tell you at the planning stage whether a same-day temporary tooth is sensible for you.
What if I do not have enough bone?
Bone grafting or alternative implant positions can often make treatment possible. Your 3D scan shows us exactly what is there.
